Operation department practitioners 'may benefit from VBS changes'

People seeking temporary jobs as operation department practitioners may benefit from changes to the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS).
As a result of recently announced changes to the rules, fewer people will be checked.
Responding to the development, Anne Fairweather, head of public policy at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, said it is positive.
She remarked: "Our recruitment agency members were concerned that people engaged on very short contracts in ... hospitals would not want to spend the £64 fee to be registered with the new scheme."
It is now crucial that clear guidance is available for all concerned before the scheme goes love in July, Ms Fairweather added.
The VBS is administered by the Independent Safeguarding Authority, which seeks to prevent unsuitable people from working with children and vulnerable adults.
It was set up in the wake of the murders of Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells by Ian Huntley seven years ago.
