A group of radiographers from James Cook University Hospital in Middlesborough have been applauded for their efforts by the Society of Radiographers.
The hospital staff have been named Northern Team of the Year by the organisation, after they treated a 69-year-old grandfather for prostate cancer, Gazette Live reports.
Brent Chadbourn was administered a seven-and-a-half week course of image-guided radiation therapy, set up by the James Cook unit, which reduces any side effects, while increasing the accuracy of the therapy.
Mr Chadbourn was quoted by the news source as saying: "The treatment on James Cook's radiotherapy ward was excellent - top notch."
He added that those involved in his care "explained everything at every stage" and were constantly checking up on him.
The James Cook University claims to be one of Europe's "most modern" facilities and has a central operating area with 19 theatres and two recovery spaces.
There is also a 16-bed intensive care ward.
