Refer an Audiologist
Wednesday 9th December 2009
Audiologists working at Ulverston Health Care Centre are to benefit from a new device to help them perform their jobs.
The Rotary Club of Ulverston, with assistance from the Rotary Foundation and the Townlands Trust, has raised money to enable the facility to purchase a new state-of-the-art hearing aid machine, the North-West Evening Mail reports.
Called an Aurical Audiometer machine, the equipment cost £6,000.
It was presented to Susan Barraclough, head of audiology at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, by Ulverston Rotary Club president Terry Horne.
Also present to hand over the device was Ulverston's mayor councillor Norman Bishop-Rowe.
The device can identify the extent of hearing damage in each ear and means that local patients will no longer have to travel out of the district to have digital hearing aids programmed and fitted.
As well as the Ulverston Health Care Centre, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust runs Furness General Hospital, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Queen Victoria Hospital.
