Investment to result in completion of biomedical research facility

An educational institution has revealed it is to invest in the completion of a new biomedical research centre.
The University of Strathclyde is to spend a total of £350 million on a series of projects, one of which is the construction of the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences.
Set to be completed by 2011, the facility is intended to be a centre for excellence in drug discovery and development.
Commenting on the strategy, university principal Professor Jim McDonald said: "This investment will create first-class facilities for our staff, students and partners and is an integral part of our vision to take our place among the leading, international technological universities."
He added that the institution - which is split over the John Anderson campus and the Jordanhill campus - is committed to finding solutions to the challenges of the 21st century through research and teaching that is of direct relevance to industry and society.
