Audiologist raises money for hospital

A dedicated audiologist from South Yorkshire has raised thousands of pounds for his hospital after completing a gruelling coast-to-coast cycle ride.
The 52-year-old, who holds the top audiology job at Rotherham Hospital, decided to embark on the 212-mile trip after seeing first-hand the hospital's chemotherapy suite when his wife was being treated for cancer, the Sheffield Star reports.
He pledged to raise enough money to install a TV or music system to entertain cancer patients in the department and, though he struggled along the way, he eventually completed the crossing from St Bees Head to Robin Hood's Bay, raising £3,000 in the process.
"It was very tiring but I decided I was going to do this and once I have made my mind up I stick to it," Mr Russell was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Burton and Albion player-coach Mark Sale has handed over a cheque for almost £2,000 to Burton Hospital in recognition of the care he received while successfully battling cancer there.
The 37-year-old raised the money through a series of fundraising events, including a football match and a golf day.
