'Desperate need' for people in specialist speech therapy jobs

People with autism desperately need the help of those working in specialist speech therapy jobs, according to one parent.
Ivan Corea said his son, who has communication difficulties as a result of autism, went without speech therapy for four years.
"I call those the lost years," commented Mr Corea, who is the CEO of the UK Autism Foundation.
"For me personally it was a funding issue; the council would not pay," he added, saying that many carers and parents are unable to afford the fees of those working in private speech therapy jobs.
Mr Corea wants councils to provide specialist speech therapy to children with autism who need it.
According to the National Autistic Society, there are more than half a million people in the UK who have autism.
Girls are four times less likely than boys to develop autism and it is estimated that four in ten children with autism do not receive a clear diagnosis within three years.
