Speech therapy jobs 'crucial'

Cutbacks on speech therapy jobs are unacceptable, according to the CEO of the UK Autism Foundation.
Ivan Corea said some councils are reducing spending in this area, while there are children with autism in "desperate" need of help and support from those in speech therapy jobs.
With many parents unable to afford private speech therapy, which Mr Corea noted can cost up to £100 an hour, councils should fulfil this need of children who have communication disorders as a result of autism. "I think it is crucial," he added.
Mr Corea recently wrote a letter to Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg urging the politicians to protect vulnerable people and provide them with better public services.
In response, Conservatives leader David Cameron said his party is committed to "real increases" in spending on health care.
According to Mr Corea, the four "really crucial areas" of public services are healthcare, education, respite care and the services provides by those in specialist speech therapy jobs.
