Refer an Audiologist
Tuesday 17th November 2009
Those in audiology jobs in Scotland could be affected by plans for a pilot scheme the country's government is planning to launch.
Public health minister Shona Robison announced that the initiative is set to get underway early next year, with the aim of improving the gathering of information.
Newborn hearing screeners have been used since 2005 to assess all babies, she explained, but data concerning the number diagnosed with problems is limited.
"Early identification of hearing loss in children provides an opportunity for a range of agencies to be involved in their support, improved development and educational attainment," said Ms Robison.
The pilot scheme - the Local Record of Deaf Children - is to be run by NHS Tayside and NHS Lothian.
Last month, the Worthing Herald noted that the audiology unit at Worthing Hospital is to benefit from new equipment, after a £100,000 donation was received by the establishment.
