Register as an Dietitian
Tuesday 17th November 2009
Youngsters suffering from eating disorders are set to benefit from the help of those with dietician jobs thanks to a new scheme.
The Eating Disorder Service is being set up in Nottingham and will take a multi-disciplinary approach to helping young people overcome such problems.
Initially to be set up in Newark, Bassetlaw and Mansfield with plans for extension in 2010, the new programme will allow patients to discuss their disorders while a psychiatrist keeps an eye on their health and whether they may need drugs.
Nottingham Healthcare has launched the scheme.
Paul Farrell of its Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, which is running the project, said that using staff with dietician jobs as well as those in other disciplines such as art therapy and psychiatry would have a better chance of success.
Dietician Susanne Eriksson recently commented on research from a Swedish institution that showed children who drink full fat milk weigh less than others.
She suggested that children who do not drink the milk may turn to fattening soft drinks instead.
