Waiting times to be targeted by NHS

A range of people in UK medical jobs are set to be affected by new government proposals, with reductions in waiting times the primary focus.
The Department of Health announced a consultation over the measures, which include a legal right to be seen by a consultant within 18 weeks of a GP's referral.
Patients needing to see a cancer specialist will be able to do so within a fortnight under the proposals, with the NHS required to find alternative providers if it is unable to meet the commitment.
Commenting on the plans, prime minister Gordon Brown explained that they are designed to empower consumers.
"None of us can ever know what's around the corner and it's one of the best things about being British that the NHS will be there for us whatever happens," he said.
The NHS is currently running Self Care Week in a bid to encourage people to look after their own health and wellbeing.
