Northenden pharmacist wins award

A Co-operative Pharmacy job worker from Northenden has been presented with the Primary Care Pharmacist of the Year award after helping a customer lose eight stone in eight months.
Store manager Paul Barry was praised by the managing director of the Co-operative pharmacy, John Nuttall, who remarked that the worker's branch is an "inspiring example" of what can be achieved, according to the South Manchester Reporter.
Mr Barry told the news provider: "I am thrilled to have won the award. Pharmacies are not just about selling prescriptions - we should be somewhere people can come for advice and good quality care."
A man initially weighing 21 stone became eight stone lighter thanks to Mr Barry's programme launched two years ago, while another man lost five-and-a-half stone.
The branch also has schemes helping smokers who want to quit, as well as providing emergency contraception, the paper reported.
A new distribution centre was recently launched by Co-operative Pharmacy in Stoke on Trent, catering to 800 branches.
