Speech therapy clinic wins top award

Speech therapist employer Sacristan Surgery has won the Community Benefit prize at this year's Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) Awards.
The property in county Durham - which contains a dental and doctor's surgery - pharmacy and a speech and language therapy suite, was built in partnership with clients Dr Martin Judson and Partners and regional architect Howarth Lichfield, the Journal reported.
Director at the latter company Neil Turner expressed his organisation's delight and commented: "It would have been easy to produce an ordinary building, but with a client willing to invest time and money, we wanted something which would represent Sacriston."
The building contains a variety of original stained glass and sculpture artworks, a Japanese garden, is three storeys high and beat the Maggie's Centre in London to the accolade.
Mr Turner suggested the recognition is representative of the potential in the north-east to produce properties which can win top prizes.
Other Rics accolade winners this year include the St Paul's Cathedral Tercentenary Project, which was named Project of the Year 2009.
