Occupational therapy hospice to receive donation

St Cuthbert's Hospice, which provides occupational therapy jobs among others, will be receiving additional funds thanks to a local novelist.
Booker Prize winner Pat Barker will be walking on fire with her daughter to raise money for the Durham institution and commemorate her late husband, Professor David Barker, who died of heart failure and would have taken advantage of the hospice's services had the family not decided to care for him at home, according to the Journal.
Aside from occupational therapy, St Cuthbert's provides physiotherapy and bereavement support to family and friends.
The writer's daughter, Anna Barker, suggested that looking after a sick relative can be very challenging.
She said: "For the last ten months of his life my father was bed-ridden and anyone who [provides such care] needs as much support as they can get."
The Fire Walk 2009, organised by the hospice, will take place on October 29th in Durham Marketplace with local residents being encouraged to partake and raise funds for the medical establishment.
