New programme to help promote speech therapy

Teachers as well as those in speech therapy jobs are to help children with stammers as part of a new project.
Launched by secretary of state for children, schools and families Ed Balls, the scheme will be funded initially with £500,000.
The money will go towards developing help and support throughout the country, as well as assisting the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children to expand its services.
Manager Frances Cook, who works at the facility, expressed delight about the project and suggested that the money will go a long way towards developing another centre in the north and expanding the "much needed" speech and language therapy services in London.
Mr Balls added that the information and training made available to schools through this programme "will mean they can better understand and support pupils who stammer".
The British Stammering Association already offers an information guide for teachers on how best to deal with stammering students.
