The Yorkshire Heart Centre at Leeds General Infirmary has benefited from the Take Heart charity to the tune of £2 million over the last two decades, it has been revealed.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the volunteer-run aid organisation hit the milestone after 21 years of operation and cardio-respiratory services directorate manager Joanne Wood said it was an "integral part of the cardiology team".
"We are so grateful for Take Heart's support over the last 20 years," she commented.
The charity's chairman Colin Pullan, 78, has dedicated his life to the unit since 1988 when he suffered a heart attack and required a bypass and pacemakers.
He suggested that the people of Leeds are lucky to have what he believes is Europe's best cardiology centre.
Last month, it was announced that Leeds General will be participating in the Hospital Gift Loyalty Card scheme, which it is hoped will help fundraising at the infirmary.
