A biomedical scientist from Liverpool has suggested she was proud to receive a thank you letter for helping to save the life of a Special Boat Service member in Afghanistan.
Tracey Smith-Straney, a member of the Territorial Army (TA), told the Liverpool Echo the note, which revealed the man had gone on to recover and become a father, "made the tour worthwhile for all of us".
Biomedical scientists, radiographers, surgeons and nurses from Walton Hospital and University Hospital Aintree were recently praised for their work as part of Liverpool's TA medical unit.
The Army presented Aintree University Hospitals NHS Trust with a painting of TA medics to say thank you and Colonel Peter Jackson of 208 (Liverpool) Field Hospital (Volunteers) indicated that the military are "indebted" to this type of support.
He commented: "The staff from Aintree have been absolutely fantastic. They should be very proud of themselves and the trust should be proud of them."
