If children wear shoes that are not correctly fitted to the size and shape of their feet, they risk suffering damage, a medical expert has warned.
Commenting on the issue, podiatrist Emma Supple said she has treated many youngsters with foot problems, the BBC reports.
Children's feet can begin to take the shape of shoes that are ill-fitting, she suggested.
Ms Supple added: "If you wear bad shoes through your childhood and your toes and your foot starts to change shape, then your knees will change and your hips will change and you'll start to develop problems other than your feet."
Last month, fellow foot specialist Lorraine Jones from the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists claimed that 37 per cent of women admit to wearing uncomfortable shoes as long as they are fashionable, the Metro reported.
She pointed out that doing so can lead to problems such as bunions, thickened and ingrown nails, hammer toes, corns and hard skin.
