Almost 1,500 people in and around the Aberdeenshire village of Tarves have signed a petition against plans to build a new pharmacy on Duthie Road.
According to the Press and Journal, the locals are opposed to the facility because they fear it could have a detrimental effect on the income of the local Haddo Medical Group, which runs surgeries in Tarves and Methlick.
This could make the sites financially unviable, leading to a possible loss of health services in the area.
Bob Davidson, chairman of Tarves Community Council, commented: "There was a clear message from local residents that they do not wish to lose such valued facilities and the community council unanimously supported that view."
The pharmacy proposals are to be considered in the coming weeks by the Pharmacy Practices Committee and NHS Grampian, which has been responsible for NHS services in the area since 2004 after the dissolution of the two local trusts.
