Refer an Audiologist
Wednesday 23rd September 2009
The length of time patients with hearing difficulties in England have to wait in order to receive a digital aid has fallen, it has been suggested.
According to figures produced by the Department of Health, the average waiting time for such people to be given a digital hearing aid has been reduced to 4.9 weeks.
This is an all-time low, the government claimed.
The reduction follows a commitment made last year by the Department of Health, which is currently headed by secretary of state for health Andy Burnham.
Commenting on the achievement, health minister Mike O'Brien said: "The NHS treats around 400,000 patients referred directly to audiology services every year and it is vital people across the country are able to access these services without delay."
He added that the reduction is "fantastic" and it builds on recent figures showing a 99.5 per cent fall in people waiting over six weeks for a hearing assessment compared with three years ago.
