Sussex hospitals pass hygiene tests

Hospitals in central Sussex have passed a hygiene spot-check by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for the second time this year.
The unannounced assessment found that the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital and Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre, is successfully implementing the government's statutory hygiene code.
Actions that hospitals must take to keep the risks of 'superbugs' such as MRSA and C difficile as low as possible are outlined in the code.
Brighton and Sussex NHS Trust chief executive Duncan Selbie commented: "The findings of this inspection underline just how hard everyone is working and provide assurance that we are maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control."
Earlier this week, the CQC called for a renewed drive to cut numbers of people with cardiovascular disease through improvements in statin prescribing and cholesterol management.
The condition is currently responsible for one in three deaths in England.
