A dietician has got involved in an initiative designed to promote the benefits of healthy eating to youngsters.
Kerry Parkhill is working with primary, post primary and special schools in Carrick in a scheme under which pupils participate in interactive sessions educating them on how to make healthy food choices, Carrickfergus Today reports.
The health professional works for the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, which employs around 14,000 members of staff and serves a population of 442,979.
Commenting on the campaign, Jill Curry, dietetic services manager with the trust, said: "This innovative school-focused post raises awareness of the link between diet and health to pupils, parents, carers, teachers and catering staff."
She added that local schools have benefited from nutritional advice with an emphasis on meeting children's requirements for growth and development.
In addition, the prevention of conditions such as cancer and coronary heart disease is covered, Ms Curry pointed out.
