Consultation explores how to fund training of new medical workers

The funding of training for new medical workers is the subject of a new consultation.
Forming part of the NHS Student Support Review, the discussion was launched by health minister Ann Keen today (September 15th).
Primarily, it will focus on the views concerning the best option for resolving the discrepancy of support available to diploma and degree students.
Ms keen said: "It is very important that we have the necessary debate on student funding that this consultation will provide."
She added that only a high-quality workforce can deliver care of a high enough standard.
It is therefore important to act now to ensure that financial support for healthcare students - including hospital doctors - does not provide any barriers to attracting and retaining high-calibre applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Ms Keen, who is the MP for the Brentford and Isleworth constituency, was appointed to her position as health minister by Gordon Brown when he became prime minister in 2007.
