More hospital doctors to be recruited to deal with obese patients

The number of hospital doctors required to deal with obese people has increased.
As a result, medical centres in Leicester are taking on new members of staff in order to help them cope with patient demand, the Leicester Mercury reports.
An additional doctor has already been recruited to assist with weight-loss procedures and there are plans to recruit more surgeons.
Consultant surgeon at the Leicester Royal Infirmary Sukhbir Ubhi said: "People are getting heavier and there is also much more awareness about weight-loss surgery and its potential benefits.
"The surgery isn't suitable for all patients."
He added that people have to have an intense assessment prior to undergoing weight-loss procedures and, afterwards, they have to make significant alterations to their lifestyles.
For example, gastric banding or bypassing operations are only available to patients who demonstrate a long-term commitment to continue eating less and taking regular exercise.
Leicester Royal Infirmary is run by the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, which employs around 12,000 staff.
