Missed appointment issue needs to be tackled, hospital bosses say

An NHS trust has said it needs to tackle the issue of missed appointments.
According to NHS Nottingham City, people are missing as many as 13 per cent of pre-arranged meetings, including those involving radiography, This is Nottingham reports.
Patients from more deprived backgrounds are identified as the least likely to attend appointments, meaning those with the greatest need of medical care are the most at risk.
The organisation's public health director Dr Chris Packham said: "It is unfortunately the case that patients from more disadvantaged communities do not end up going to pre-arranged hospital appointments twice as often as patients from less disadvantaged areas."
He added that it is "absolutely essential" that NHS Nottingham City works with hospitals and GP surgeries, as well as with patients themselves, in order to understand the issue and abolish any differences.
With an annual budget of around £500 million, NHS Nottingham City is responsible for providing healthcare services to around 325,000 people.
