Plans for the construction of a new medical centre in Poulton including a pharmacy have been given the green light by both residents and councillors.
Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the application, which now has to be approved by the Health and Safety Executive, the Blackpool Gazette reports.
As well as the pharmacy, the centre would house two existing medical centres.
However, Philip Hargreaves, head of estate planning for NHS North Lancashire, raised concerns over traffic and a gas pipe running underneath the site.
He stated: "No discussions have taken place with the Station Road application. It is therefore very risky in terms of the accuracy. This site comes at high risk."
The HSE has 21 days to make an objection to the plans.
Established in October 2006, NHS North Lancashire provides healthcare services to around 327,500 residents in the region and has an annual budget of nearly £500 million.
