More hospital patients rating experiences as "excellent", survey shows

A greater proportion of hospital patients described their experiences as "excellent" in 2008 than did six years previously, a new survey has revealed.
Conducted by the Patients Association (PA), the research found that 42 per cent of people polled last year rated their care this highly, compared with 38 per cent in 2002.
In total, nine in ten patients rated their treatment as either excellent or good, while only two per cent said it had been poor.
However, more than a dozen cases of "appalling" and "shocking" care were also noted by the PA.
Responding to this, government chief nursing officer Chris Beasley said: "All patients deserve the highest quality of care from the NHS and the poor care received in these cases is simply unacceptable."
She added that the examples were not representative of the experiences of the "vast majority" of hospital patients.
Established more than 40 years ago, the PA aims to promote the voice of patients in healthcare.
