Refer an Audiologist
Tuesday 25th August 2009
A number of people with audiology jobs are to take part in an initiative aimed at ensuring that hearing aid problems are spotted as quickly as possible.
According to reports in Stoke and Staffordshire paper the Sentinel, eight centres in the area are to have hearing specialists on hand to check that aids are working correctly whenever patients call in to pick up new batteries.
The scheme is being launched to minimise the harm that can be done to the hard-of-hearing by faulty equipment.
Stephen Boswell, head of audiological services at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, commented: "This way we can make sure our patients maintain the best possible hearing for their condition, and any malfunctions can be picked up before they have time to develop and cause them trouble."
The hospital is run by University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust, which employs around 7,000 members of staff.
