Pharmacists 'to receive training' ahead of Ramadan fasting

A selection of pharmacists across the UK are receiving special training to help Muslim patients as they fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
The London Evening Standard reported that pharmacists working in a total of 79 outlets across the country are receiving the training, which will help them advise on any changes patients wish to make to their medication while fasting during the month.
In addition, Muslim patients are being urged to make sure they continue to keep their scheduled medical appointments and look after their health during Ramadan, as some nurses have noted a rise in missed check-ups in previous holy months.
Nuala Close, a lead cancer nurse, said that patients should not take "unnecessary" risks with their health during Ramadan, as postponing appointments until after the holy month could have serious consequences.
Pharmacists working in shops in Walthamstow, Highgate, Enfield and Hanfield are participating in the training scheme.
Meanwhile, some 700 pharmacies across Wales are joining forces to raise awareness about diabetes.
The national campaign, run in partnership with Diabetes UK Cymru, will see the pharmacies provide free risk assessments for diabetes to members of the public in the month of August.
