Private firm 'may run Hinchingbrooke Hospital'

NHS East of England (EoE) is inviting organisations from the private and public sectors to run Hinchingbrooke Hospital from 2011.
Speaking to the BBC, Andrew MacPherson, director of strategic projects for EoE, said it is a unique scheme and one that will hopefully help the hospital deal with its £40 million debt.
"This is an exciting opportunity and it also means providing a sustainable future for Hinchingbrooke," he commented.
Interested parties will be invited to bid for a "franchise" to run the hospital in October.
Mr MacPherson told the news provider that he hoped bids would be but forward by charities, private organisations and in-house NHS teams.
He added that NHS EoE is committed to a "transparent and inclusive process" for the benefit of all stakeholders.
