Cancer treatment times 'improving in Scotland'

The proportion of cancer sufferers starting their treatment within two months of diagnosis has improved in Scotland.
Figures show that during the first quarter of the year, 96 per cent of people who were urgently referred by their GP began treatment in less than 62 days
This is up from 95.4 per cent between October and December 2008.
Commenting on the results, health secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: "This is NHS Scotland's best-ever performance against the 62-day cancer waiting times target. The challenge now is to continue this achievement and to strive for further improvements within specific NHS boards and cancer types."
Ms Sturgeon added that tougher targets will be introduced in the future.

Speaking earlier this week, health minister Ann Keen said the centre will offer better quality treatment to those suffering from rare cancers.
