New patient care improvement drive launched

Northampton General Hospital has improved the efficiency of its staff members through a new initiative, it has been reported.
A number of new measures have been rolled out play as part of the scheme, which has seen employees walk around 730 fewer miles in six months.
These include making shift handovers more efficient and stopping visitors and patients from needlessly taking up nurses' time during medicine rounds, the Northampton Chronicle reports.
Due to the success of the scheme on individual wards, it has now been rolled out across the entire hospital.
Director of service improvement at the medical facility Sue Stanley told the news provider: "The overall aim of the programme is to increase the amount of time ward staff spend on direct patient care.
"It helps to improve safety, increase patient satisfaction and improve hospital experience."
The scheme is part of the NHS Institute's Releasing Time to Care - The Productive Ward initiative, which aims to allow therapists and other people with medical jobs to spend more time on patient care.
