Pharmacists involved in diabetes initiative

Pharmacists across Wales are set to join forces to help raise awareness about diabetes as part of a national campaign.
According to Diabetes UK Cymru, as many as 50,000 people across the country could be suffering from the disease without even knowing they are affected.
In a bid to tackle the problem, 700 pharmacies will provide free diabetes risk assessments to the public over the course of the next week.
The campaign is aimed at finding those diabetics who are unaware of their condition and alerting people to the serious complications that can be involved, such as heart attacks, blindness, strokes and kidney disease.
Dai Williams, national director of the charity, said: "The week is the perfect opportunity for people to have a diabetes risk assessment at their local pharmacy and to find out more about the condition."
As one of the largest patient organisations in Europe, Diabetes UK spends up to £7.3 million each year on researching the condition and supporting people who are affected.
