Firm raises awareness of childhood hearing problems

In news that may be of particular interest to newborn hearing screeners, a firm is trying to raise awareness of childhood deafness.
In honour of International Youth Day, which takes place this week (August 12th), hearing solutions provider Miracle-Ear is urging parents to look out for some of the warning signs of hearing loss in children.
According to the organisation, if left untreated, hearing problems can lead to a range of social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties.
However, Rebecca Younk, audiologist for Miracle-Ear, added: "The earlier a child's hearing impairment is detected, the sooner treatment can begin and quality of life can be restored."
Among the warning signs for deafness identified by the firm are a lack of reaction to intense sounds and a failure to respond to people who are talking out of view.
Established in 1948, Miracle-Ear is a provider of hearing aid solutions and it runs more than 1,200 stores in the US.
