Cardiac unit receives funding boost

A former patient has raised money to support a hospital cardiac unit.
Dick Farley has generated over £5,000 for Basingstoke hospital, according to the Basingstoke Gazette.
The funding is to be spent on educating staff on new procedures and buying an automated heart resuscitation machine.
Mr Farely was admitted to the hospital in 1957 at 15 years of age for heart surgery.
Some 50 years later, he is Provincial Grand Primo of the Basingstoke and Andover branch of the Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes.
He raised the money through sponsored walks, raffles and jumble sales and technology company Computer 2000 donated £1,000 to the cause.
Commenting on the feat, Dr Carl Brooke, consultant cardiologist, said: "This is fantastic.
"Even though the NHS spends huge amounts of money, we still depend on charitable donations to buy lifesaving equipment and essential training."
The Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust supplies some 300,000 people in the area with hospital services, including elective and emergency, as well as maternal and child health services.
