A hospital in Scotland has seen a rise in the number of patients killed by the superbug Clostridium difficile.
New figures show that the number of deaths at Gartnavel Royal Hospital directly attributed to the bug has almost doubled over the space of two years.
Last year, 18 people died at the medical centre, which is run by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, as a result of C difficile.
The previous year, the hospital recorded ten deaths as being directly caused by the bug.
Responding to the figures, a spokesperson for the health board claimed that infection rates were improving.
He added: "Gartnavel includes the Brownlee Centre for Infectious Diseases and the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, which both treat patients from across Scotland with serious medical conditions."
Located in Glasgow, the Gartnavel Royal Hospital has 117 beds located across six wards and it cost £19 million to develop.
