Firms 'must address shortage of pharmacists'

Companies in the UK need to address the current shortage of pharmacists as it is affecting the whole industry, it has been claimed.
According to Ashley Hicks, pharmacy director at Tesco, action is required before the issue escalates, Recruiter reports.
He added: "Many people, often the most vulnerable in our society, such as the elderly and young children, rely on the increasing number of services being offered locally through community pharmacies."
For this reason, it is significant that a rising number of pharmacists are now qualifying through Tesco's graduate scheme, he added.
The firm claims to have received more than 1,000 applications from graduates seeking to join the scheme this year alone.
So far, the programme has generated a total of 50 pharmacists, who can now enter stores and work in the industry.
Tesco says it operates pharmacies in a total of around 280 stores in a variety of locations around the UK.
