Biomedical scientists recognised by Royal Society

The Royal Society has recognised two experts in the field of biomedical science.
Professor Ronald Laskey was bestowed with the honour of the society's 2009 Royal Medals, while Sir Martin Evans was given the Copley medal.
The former scientist picked up the accolade for his contributions to the understanding of the control of DNA replication and nuclear protein transport.
He said: "It feels both flattering and humbling to see the list of past recipients but it is particularly pleasing to receive this level of recognition from your peers."
Professor Laskey went on to give special thanks to the past and present members of his research team, adding that his achievement would not have been possible without their help.
Meanwhile, Sir Martin - who is the director of the School of Biosciences and professor of mammalian genetics at Cardiff University - was recognised for his work on embryonic stem cells in mice.
An independent, charitable body, the Royal Society is the national academy of science for the UK and the Commonwealth.
