Tea may have health benefits, dietician finds

Drinking tea may have a positive role in reducing the risk of cardiac illnesses, according to a new study.
Commissioned by the Tea Advisory Panel (TAP), the research found that consuming three or more cups of the substance each day can play a role in fending off heart disease and can boost brain function, the Lancashire Evening Post reports.
Independent dietician and member of the TAP Dr Carrie Ruxton, who was involved in the study, said that drinking three to four cups per day - which is equivalent to around two mugs - also keeps hydration at an optimal level and enhances alertness and mood.
Dr Ruxton added: "My research showed that there's a very solid - and growing - body of evidence that indicates tea can play an important role in helping to combat cardiovascular problems such as heart disease and stroke."
Last month, Claire Holmes, a dietician at the Western Trust, advised people to pay more attention to the amounts of salt and sugar that are in their food.
