A UK hospital has received new radiography equipment which is set to reduce the time it takes to scan patients.
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary has taken delivery of the device, which cost around £1 million, the Aberdeen Press and Journal reports.
The X-ray machine is designed to be more accurate than other devices, as well as to reduce the length of time patients have to spend being pictured.
Commenting on the addition to the department, consultant radiologist Dympna McAteer said: "The new scanner takes 128 X-ray slices while other NHS CT scanners in Scotland take 64 or fewer, so it produces much more detailed images and in a fraction of the time."
She added that patients are only on the scanning table for "a matter of seconds".
This makes it easier for them if they have to hold their breath or a certain position, the medical expert pointed out.
Describing itself as the largest hospital within NHS Grampian, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary has around 900 beds and provides a range of medical services.
