Refer an Speech and Language Therapist
Friday 10th July 2009
The government has revealed it is to increase investments in speech and language therapy services.
Children's secretary Ed Balls and care services minister Phil Hope revealed that an additional £5 million is to be spent to improve services for children and young people with communication problems.
The development is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing communication support.
One of the measures to be implemented is a series of 16 pilot areas which have been chosen to identify good practice in providing support for youngsters who have speech, language and communication problems.
Mr Balls, who was appointed to his position in June 2007, said: "Parents know that the ability to communicate is an essential life skill for their children, allowing them to fulfil their potential, enjoy their education and go on to become full participants of society."
He added that the government is determined to remove the barriers which can stand in the way of some children.
