A medical professional has shown his charitable side by raising money for radiography equipment to send to a hospital in Uganda.
Jim McWhirter operated as a GP in the UK for a quarter of a century before volunteering to work at the Kamuli Mission Hospital in the African country in April 2007, the Henley Standard reports.
While performing his duties at the Ugandan medical centre, he found that equipment was basic and supplies were thin on the ground.
In addition, there were not enough staff, meaning one doctor had not had a holiday in seven years.
Dr McWhirter also experienced the breakdown of an X-ray machine.
After returning to the UK, he set about raising money to replace it and has achieved his goal - with the equipment having been flown to Africa.
The machine was delivered to the hospital by Tim Beacon, director of Med-Aid - an organisation which is also involved in projects Malawi, as well as other places.
