New speech and language centre opens

A school based in north London has opened a new speech and language centre.
Crossway's Summerside primary school in Finchley raised £14,000 so it could establish Summerside House, which is intended to integrate deaf and hearing children through a range of activities.
Among the services offered at the centre is sign language tuition for the parents and families of deaf youngsters.
In addition, the building has been fitted with acoustic ceiling tiles to provide what the school calls an "acoustically-friendly environment".
Manjit Dulay, headteacher at Summerside School, commented: "We are thrilled to be extending our services to our wider community, ensuring inclusion happens at all levels.
"Our vision was always to ensure that the diversity of our families and their needs were being met."
Meanwhile, councillor Fiona Bulmer, cabinet member for children's services, said that she hopes the new centre - which is based in the Crossway area of Finchley - will provide even greater support to deaf people in the borough.
