New deal to boost biomedical science in Scotland

Biomedical science in Scotland is to be boosted by a new partnership between scientists and industry, it has been revealed.
A total of 250 research jobs are to be created as a result of the agreement.
Called the Scottish Academic Health Sciences Collaboration (SAHSC), the initiative is being backed by £15 million from the Scottish government's Chief Scientist Office, which supports and promotes research aimed at improving NHS Scotland's services.
New positions will be created across a range of clinical disciplines and university medical schools in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow will team up with NHS boards.
Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon commented: "This new initiative opens up further opportunities for our researchers to work together and in partnership with industry to turn cutting-edge research into real health benefits."
She added that by speeding up the process of putting industry with researchers, Scotland will gain a competitive advantage in the global marketplace.
