More speech and language therapy needed in north Hampshire, group claims

There is a lack of speech and language therapy services in north Hampshire, it has been suggested.
According to Sharon Smith, the organiser of the Stepping Stones Down syndrome Support Group, therapy for people suffering from the condition - which is a genetic disorder that affects around one in every 1,000 babies - need therapy once a month.
However, many youngsters only receive it once or twice a year, the Basingstoke Gazette reports.
She added: "We are having to raise a huge amount of money and fight constantly for our children to see a speech and language therapist."
Meanwhile, Nicky Adamson-Young, divisional director of children's services at Hampshire Community Health Care, said that while the best service possible is provided to children with Down's syndrome, a lack of funding coupled with shortages in speech and language therapists restrains the level of care provided.
She went on to say: "The team use their limited resources in the best way."
