Refer an Podiatrist
Wednesday 10th June 2009
A podiatry service operating in north Tyneside has been extended after proving successful during a trial period.
The podiatry biomechanics offering run by North Tyneside Primary Care Trust (PCT) was available to patients at the department's base in North Shields during the pilot, the News Guardian reports.
However, it has now been rolled out so that people can be referred by their GPs to their nearest biomechanics centre, meaning they can be seen closer to their homes.
The service provides assessment and treatment for a range of issues that can develop as a result of biomechanical problems in feet.
Principal podiatrist in biomechanics for North Tyneside PCT said: "Being able to offer the service at locations across north Tyneside means that we can provide the specialist care patients need in a community setting, ensuring that the problems they're experiencing are identified and treated at the earliest opportunity."
Employing around 750 people, North Tyneside PCT serves a population of more than 206,000.
