New partnership to address predicted shortfall of radiographers

A partnership recently signed by Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of Portsmouth will tackle a range of issues, including a shortage of therapeutic radiographers.
The two organisations have worked together in an informal partnership since 2004 and they have now come together officially under an agreement to collaborate and share knowledge and expertise.
Under the partnership, there will be increased efforts made to recruit and educate enough students to meet a predicted shortfall in therapeutic radiographers.
In addition, changes to the way in which radiography services are delivered in the NHS are to receive particular attention.
Standard radiography is expected to be delivered in the community, while hospitals will be responsible for specialist treatment.
Ursula Ward, chief executive of Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "The trust is delighted with the formalisation of its relationship with Portsmouth University."
The trust provides services across three sites, including St Mary's Hospital, the Royal Hospital Haslar and the Queen Alexandra Hospital.
