Refer an Radiographer
Friday 22nd May 2009
Although the majority of people in Britain have met and been treated by a radiography practitioner, many are unaware of how the profession works.
This is the claim made by Christina Freeman, professional officer at the Society of Radiographers, the Independent reports.
According to the publication, 95 per cent of people have been treated by radiographers.
Ms Freeman said: "People tend to know what physiotherapists do, because they see them run on to football pitches with wet flannels, but the world of X-rays is a bit more mysterious and certainly a lot more frightening to the average person with a broken toe or arm."
The Independent points out that most people operating in the profession are diagnostic radiographers, with a smaller group specialising in therapeutic or radiotherapy among cancer patients.
Claiming to represent more than 90 per cent of radiographers in the UK, the Society of Radiographers was founded in 1920.
