Refer an Audiologist
Thursday 21st May 2009
An audiologist is offering golfers is her area free hearing checks, according to reports in the Wharfedale and Airedale Observer.
Lisa Binns-Smith of Binns Hearing Healthcare is providing the service after research revealed that people who engage in the sport may be damaging their hearing.
The study, which was published in the British Medical Journal, indicated that titanium golf clubs cause a sound when they strike balls which could result in temporary or permanent hearing damage among regular players.
Ms Binns-Smith said: "We were interested to explore the impact of this research to understand the implications and the effect it could potentially have on golfers in West Yorkshire."
She added that some designs of clubs and balls are likely to create much greater noise levels than others.
With two consulting rooms, Binns Hearing Healthcare provides audiology services, including speech assessment and video otoscopy, which involves pictures being taken of patients' eardrums.
