A hospital is to implement new hygiene measures in a bid to crack down on superbugs.
Under the terms of the plans, staff at Walsall Manor Hospital will be subject to regular hand cleanliness audits, expressandstar.com reports.
They will operate under a policy of "three strikes and you're out", meaning that any worker who is caught having failed to wash their hands on three separate occasions will have to answer his or her case to managers.
A spokesperson for the hospital - which is run by Walsall Hospitals NHS Trust - said: "This is proof of how seriously we take hygiene at Walsall Manor.
"It is one of a number of measures planned as part of the recently-launched Give Infection the Elbow initiative."
She added that, while hand hygiene among staff is very important, it is also vital that patients and visitors observe the same strict standards.
Established in April 2001, Walsall Hospitals NHS Trust provides a total of 560 beds for patients and it employs more than 3,200 workers.
