Dietician involved in scheme to fight obesity in children

An initiative designed to combat obesity in children has been launched in Leicestershire.
Under the terms of the scheme, GPs will prescribe fitness lessons to overweight youngsters, the Leicester Mercury reports.
Among the medical professionals involved in the plan is Aileen Smith, a dietician with the Leicestershire Nutrition and Dietetics Service.
She said: "Only those parents who think they will benefit will be referred to the scheme - they will not be forced to come on it.
"It will only work for those wanting to take part and wanting to make changes."
Children who are referred to the scheme will attend a "lifestyle club" which will teach them the importance of healthy eating and exercise.
Parents will also be asked to attend the classes and will be given advice on how to cook cheap and easy healthy family meals.
Leicestershire Nutrition and Dietetics Service is hosted by Leicestershire County and Rutland Primary Care Trust and all of its workers are registered with the Health Professionals Council.
